At the closing press conference of the 22nd Expoagro Afubra, the date for the 23rd edition was announced. This upcoming event will be a continuation of the celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the Associação dos Fumicultores do Brasil, the organization behind Brazil's largest fair dedicated to family agriculture.
Expoagro Afubra 2024 drew a total attendance of 154,500 visitors and generated R$ 310 million in business transactions, with R$ 1,562,725.60 specifically in the Family Agriculture Pavilion. Although there was a 17% decrease in attendance compared to the previous year, and a 10.7% drop from the last fair, Marco Antonio Dornelles, the event’s general coordinator, emphasized that the fair managed to achieve its goals within the three days it was operational.
Romeu Schneider, the vice-president of Afubra, expressed regret over the difficulties faced by some exhibitors, particularly those unable to stay at the park for the final day due to the adverse weather conditions. He mentioned that Afubra would consider implementing more permanent structures at the park to mitigate future disruptions, noting that the existing buildings had remained unaffected.
Lindomar do Carmo Moraes, the deputy secretary of the Secretariat of Rural Development of Rio Grande do Sul, highlighted that if the fair had not been forced to close for a day, the Family Agriculture Pavilion would have seen significantly higher numbers. He estimated that, excluding the impact of the canceled day, there would have been a 26% increase in activity at the pavilion compared to the previous year. Camila Rode, the first secretary of the Federation of Agricultural Workers (Fetag/RS), emphasized that Expoagro Afubra represents a collective effort and collaboration aimed at shaping the future of family agriculture.
Held from March 19 to 22 in Rincão Del Rey, Rio Pardo/RS, this year’s fair featured over 500 exhibitors and offered visitors insights into innovation, technology, and sustainable practices for rural properties. The event, despite the setback, provided valuable opportunities for learning and business interactions.
To recall, the previous edition in 2023 attracted 186,000 visitors over four days and achieved R$ 347.3 million in business transactions, with the Family Agriculture Pavilion recording R$ 1.764 million in deals. The Expoagro Afubra continues to be a significant event, demonstrating the strength and adaptability of Brazil’s family agriculture sector.
